Julianne Moore to star in The Hunger Games?
In a 25-year screen career, specialising in aggressively eccentric roles, she's played Sarah Palin, a porn actress and an FBI agent. And now it's rumoured Julianne Moore will be President Almo Coin in the third and fourth instalments of 'The Hunger Games'.
Moore, 52, is on Lionsgate’s wish-list for its two-part adaptation of 'Mockingjay', Suzanne Collins' third book in the series, according to 'Deadline' website.
Apparently the studio want Moore, a four-time Oscar nominee, for the role of President Alma Coin, the leader of District 13, a manipulative politician who figures prominently in the final book of the series.
Long thought to be an abandoned wasteland effectively bombed back into the Stone Age by a Capitol attack, District 13 is revealed in the third book to be the centre of a rebellion against the evil President Snow, with its population living in bunkers from which Coin can run her ambitious campaign to take over Panem. But while they initially seem to be on the same side, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) soon realises they don’t always see eye to eye…
Moore would follow in the footsteps of heavyweight actors Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jeffrey Wright, both of whom joined the series, alongside leads Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, for the second instalment, 'Catching Fire', which arrives in UK cinemas on 22 November.
'Catching Fire' director Francis Lawrence has signed on to direct both of the 'Mockingjay' movies, working from a script by Danny Strong. 'Mockingjay Part 1' will follow on 21 November 2014, before 'Part 2' concludes the series on 20 November 2015.
