Kevin Bacon - a little TOO connected?

The man who leant his name to the (in)famous internet game 'Six Degrees of Bacon' has discovered that he and his wife are actually cousins.

The shock revelation came as Kevin Bacon was being filmed for the American PBS TV series, 'Finding Your Roots,' the USA's equivalent the BBC's of 'Who Do You Think You Are?'

In the show, where famous Americans are given an insight into their family backgrounds, Bacon and his actress wife Kyra Sedgwick were informed that they are 9th cousins once removed.

Sedgwick had already expressed fears that the show - which also proves that Bacon and Brad Pitt are 13th cousins twice removed! - would reveal that the pair were related, albeit very distantly.

Apparently upon hearing the news Kyra says to Kevin “See. I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!”

Of course, the irony is heavy in this piece of news, given that it was 'Tremors' star Bacon who was the basis for the viral 'Six Degrees' game which aimed to prove that everyone is connected by six or less circumstances.

Bacon has often said that he felt the game was disrespectful, and during the filming says “I kind of felt like it was a joke at my expense, you know.''

The news was broken in the show (which airs in the States on Sunday night) by Presenter Henry Louis Gates Jr, a distinguished Harvard professor. He also revealed that Bacon was remotely related to President Obama, prompting the 'Footloose' actor to quip  “No kidding. I knew I wasn’t getting enough respect.”

Bacon and Sedgwick have been married for 25 years. Let's hope this news doesn't put too much of a strain on the couple.
