No Kryptonite in new Superman film Man of Steel

Henry Cavill's Superman won't encounter his green enemy in the reboot, according to director Zack Snyder.

It's a spoiler of sorts – but Zack Snyder has said that his incarnation of Superman will not be confronted with his radioactive nemesis Kryptonite.

Snyder is keeping 'Man of Steel' under a veil of secrecy, but ruled out the possibility in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“I'll be honest with you, there's no Kryptonite in the movie,” he said.

Kryptonite has featured in many of the screen incarnations of Superman, including Richard Donner's 1978 film and Richard Lester's 'Superman III' in 1983.

It also featured in Bryan Singer's 'Superman Returns' in 2006, when Brandon Routh was the caped Kryptonian.

The magazine then goes on the explain a little about the plot, saying that even on Krypton, Kal-El is a 'special child' whose birth was 'cause for alarm' for his home planet.

His adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent (Diane Lane and Kevin Costner) tell him not to use his immense strength on Earth, for fear he will be ostracised, hence the young Clark Kent grows up isolated.

Henry Cavill, the British actor playing Clark Kent/Superman/Kal-El, added: “Although he is not susceptible to the frailties of mankind, he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties.”

The magazine then adds: “Based on footage EW has seen, the film (which was directed by Zack Snyder and shepherded by Christopher Nolan) has plenty of building-smashing, train-slinging, heat-vision-blasting battles to cut through the emotional heaviness.”

As well as being produced by Christopher Nolan, it's also been written by his go-to writer, David S. Goyer, who penned his Dark Knight trilogy.

Among the most hotly-anticipated films of the summer, it also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Russell Crowe as Jor-El.

It's due out on June 14.
