Oliver Twist 'heist sequel' planned

Re-imagined version of the Dickens classic takes place 20 years after the first

A 're-imagined' version of Charles Dickens' classic second novel 'Oliver Twist' is being planned by US studio Sony.

'Dodge and Twist' is to be set 20 years after the events of the book, with Oliver and the Artful Dodger found on opposite sides of the law.

The pair then become embroiled in a plot to steal the crown jewels, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Newcomer Cole Haddon is writing the film, having just finished writing a forthcoming TV reboot of 'Dracula' for NBC, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the vampire and 'Valkyrie' star Thomas Kretschmann as Abraham Van Helsing.

Hannah Minghella, president of production at Sony's Columbia Pictures and daughter of the late director Anthony Minghella, will oversee the film, which is reportedly being fast-tracked.

It is likely hoping to follow on from the success of the similar re-imagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 'Sherlock Holmes' stories for Hollywood by Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr.
