Peter Mayhew returning in Star Wars VII?

Legendary Wookiee, Peter Mayhew, may return in 'Star Wars VII'… after dropping out of a fan convention due to 'filming' commitments.

Ever since the 'Star Wars' sequels were first announced, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford have been rumoured to return. But where would Han Solo be without his trusty Wookiee companion? Peter Mayhew (aka Chewbacca) might just return to the galaxy far, far away… let's just hope he remembers where he left that hydrospanner.

According to the folks running the Texas International Comic Con, 'Star Wars' favourite Peter Mayhew is unable to attend their event on 23 May, 2014… and the reason? Filming commitments.

We regret to announce that Peter Mayhew is canceling his appearance at Comicpalooza this year due to filming.

Of course, there's been no official confirmation of Peter's involvement with 'Star Wars VII'… at least, to date. But considering the convention is scheduled for the end of May, it seems an obvious indication that Chewbacca (or Mayhew in another role) could appear in the upcoming sequel.

But while the towering seven foot, three inch actor is now rumoured to return, this wasn't always a certainty…

Back in September, the gentle giant found himself hospitalised for a double knee replacement - a move which some believed could be a pre-emptive move to put him back on his feet in time for 'Star Wars: Episode VII'.

But the 69-year-old 'Star Wars' actor admitted that it was no minor op… and while his recovery was thankfully quick, it could have taken a lot of patience to get him up and about again.

Thankfully, it looks as though he's fighting fit and ready to climb back into that Wookiee costume. But will he appear in 'Star Wars VII'? For now, we'll just have to wait and see.

Will Chewbacca appear in 'Star Wars VII'? Could Peter Mayhew nab another, less-costumed role? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
