Director of the first two movies will be back for the sequel to X-Men: First Class

Bryan Singer has been confirmed as the director of the next X-Men film, 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'.

The man behind the first two films in the X-Men series will unleash the latest installment on July 18, 2014.

'Kiss-Ass' director Matthew Vaughn, who also directed the most recent X-Men title, 'X-Men: First Class', departed the project but will still have a co-writer and producer credit.

It's thought Vaughn stepped down so that he can direct 'The Secret Service', an adaptation of the comic book by Mark Millar, who wrote 'Kick-Ass'.

Meanwhile, Singer, who co-wrote and produced 'X-Men' in 2000 and the sequel 'X2' in 2003, will now work with the new X-Men cast from 'First Class'.

It's thought that Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy will all reprise their roles for the film.

It will be adapted from the 1981 storyline from the Marvel comic, in which mutants are incarcerated in internment camps in an alternate future.
