Snyder 'not directing' Star Wars spin-off film

Yahoo UK Movies News
Zack Snyder's reps have denied that he is set to direct a spin-off film in the 'Star Wars' universe.

A report from Vulture yesterday claimed that he was set to make a film which would appear in parallel to the forthcoming trilogy.

It was said to be based on Akira Kurosawa's martial arts classic 'Seven Samurai', but set in the 'Star Wars galaxy'.

But now a statement has refuted the claims.

“While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new 'Star Wars'. He is currently in post on his two films, 'Man of Steel' and '300: Battle of Artemisia',” the rep told the Hollywood Reporter.

Snyder was at one time rumoured to be on the list of directors being courted to direct one of the three new films planned in the 'Star Wars' series, following the purchase of Lucasfilm by Disney.

So far, the only concrete news is that Michael Arndt, writer of 'Toy Story 3', will pen 'Star Wars VII'.

There is no director in place as yet, with Guilermo Del Toro and JJ Abrams recently revealing that they turned the offer down.

Episode 7 is due out in 2015.
