The Queen writer to pen Hefner biopic?

Peter Morgan has met with Hef

The writer of 'The Queen' is in line to take on a somewhat less regal individual for his next project – Playboy founder Hugh Hefner.

BAFTA-winning writer Peter Morgan, who also wrote 'Frost/Nixon' about presenter David Frost's groundbreaking interview with disgraced former President Richard Nixon, met with Hefner yesterday.

The magazine publisher confirmed the meet, tweeting: “I had a good meeting today with screenwriter Peter Morgan discussing a film about my life.”

It's to be produced by Warner Bros and Jerry Weintraub, the revered producer behind the likes of Robert Altman's 'Nashville', Barry Levinson's 'Diner' and more recently George Clooney's 'Ocean's 11', 'Ocean's 12' and 'Ocean's 13'.

Names in the hat to play Hefner have been rumoured for some time, with likes of Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman and Robert Downey Jr as potential Hefs.

It's not known which part of Hefner's life will be explored in the film, but there's much to make it a fascinating project, from how he transformed himself from a puritanical upbringing to being the godfather of the sexual revolution, to his championing of civil rights.
