Time runs out for 24 movie

Arguments over cash mean Fox won't have time to make ticking-clock TV spin-off

The much-anticipated movie adaptation of TV show '24' won't film this year after all... because studio Fox thinks there isn't enough time to pull it off!

According to Deadline, the problems started with a debate over the film's budget. The filmmakers at production company Imagine wanted a much bigger budget than the $30m (£19m) proposed by studio Fox, and a deal for director Antoine Fuqua had not even been finalised.

Meanwhile, star Kiefer Sutherland was reportedly not happy that he was offered 'just' $1m (£600k) up front and a percentage of the profits for the movie. It's thought he wanted $5m (£3.2m).

This is an issue when Sutherland's schedule is considered. He must fit filming into the summer hiatus of his new show, 'Touch', which begins in April.

As a result, Fox reckoned the matter couldn't be resolved this year and have put the project on hold.

Sutherland is said to be “furious” over the delay, with a source telling The Wrap that the actor thought "the studio didn't seem to be paying attention or be consistent with [his] notes and thoughts".

A spokesman for Fox said: "We're still working on a script, and hope to make when Kiefer next has time.

"But this all came down to timing, and seven weeks is not enough time to prep a movie like this."
