Vice’s Shane Smith to be Honored at 2015 Tribeca Film Festival

Shane Smith, the Vice Media founder who recently turned heads with a deal to produce a daily newscast on HBO, is among the honorees of the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival’s Disruptive Innovation Awards.

Tribeca’s annual awards single out recipients for their significant impacts on business models and industries in a variety of fields. Airbnb, “Brain Games” host Jason Silva, Darren Walker of the Ford Foundation and Drones for Good founder Alec Momont also are among the 25 honorees this year to take home a trophy.

Tribeca also named Walter Isaacson’s nonfiction book “The Innovators” as book of the year, with meditation app Headspace taking the laurel for app of the year.

The 2015 Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards, presented with Harvard Business School professor Clay Christensen and the Disruptor Foundation, are set for April 24. The 2015 festival runs April 15-26.
