Viral Carrie prank unleashes supernatural powers in a coffee shop

A surreal stunt involving one girl, a coffee shop and some ‘supernatural powers’ has been unleashed onto the internet looking like something out of a Stephen King novel. Because it is.

The video, dubbed ‘Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise’, is a promotion for upcoming horror remake ‘Carrie’ - starring Chloe Grace Moretz as a tortured teen who discovers she has paranormal powers to exact revenge on her high school bullies.

Inspired by those telekinetic talents, Thinkmodo, a viral video marketing company, crafted a ‘Carrie’ stunt by rigging a New York coffee shop with hidden cables and remote control furniture, then packing the place full of performers in on the gag.

New York actress Andrea Morales plays Carrie in the video - sending a stuntman flying into a wall when he “accidentally” knocks her coffee over in front of some unsuspecting patrons.

“The stunt team had to build a fake wall and rehearse the wall stunt,” Thinkmodo’s Michael Krivicka told our pals at Yahoo Movies US. “A separate crew was installing the hidden cameras and setting up a control room downstairs. A third crew was in charge of the props: spring loaded books, motorised tables and chairs, and spring-loaded picture frames."

The team then compiled the public’s best reactions to create the viral video.

“People screamed, they ran, and some were simply stunned and frozen - trying to process what they just saw," boasted Krivicka . "In other words, we basically scared the living hell out of people."

You can see the real-deal ‘Carrie’, co-starring Julianne Moore, in UK cinemas on 29 November 2013.
