What happened to the Lost cast?

Matthew Fox has broken into the movies in Alex Cross, but what about his ex-co-stars?

It’s been two and a half years since ‘Lost’, and we still miss it a little bit. It was completely addictive, had legions of fans and was for a time the most talked about show in America.

So if any show could give an aspiring young actor a leg up into Hollywood, then surely it was ‘Lost’ - it certainly worked for Matthew Fox.

The Jack Shephard actor has been winning rave reviews for his intense, barmy and very skinny performance as the villain in ‘Alex Cross’ - out this week.

But have any other survivors from Oceanic Airlines flight 815 nabbed themselves a movie career?
Not as many as you’d think…

Matthew Fox (Jack Shephard)
Episode count: 113
Matthew Fox was the good-looking poster boy for ‘Lost’, but neatly sidestepped potential type-casting by playing an insane cage-fighting serial killer in Alex Cross. He impressed critics by losing more than 44lbs for the role.

Josh Holloway (James “Sawyer” Ford)
Episode count:

104
Holloway played sarcastic lady’s man Sawyer in the show, which was, we suppose, decent preparation for splashing around in those Davidoff ads. He also showed up in ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’, but didn’t last long.

Evangeline Lilly (Kate Austen)
Episode count:
108
Lilly was basically the ‘female lead’ in ‘Lost’, but her Hollywood career has been steady rather than spectacular.  Supporting roles opposite Hugh Jackman in ‘Real Steel’ and Jeremy Renner in ‘The Hurt Locker’ weren’t too memorable, but we have high hopes for her in ‘The Hobbit’.  She’ll play beautiful elf Turiel in Peter Jackson’s trilogy - a character created specifically for the films (reportedly to give it some female appeal).

Jorge Garcia (Hugo “Hurley” Reyes)
Episode count:
107
Sadly, one of the show’s most memorable-looking stars (he’s a big chap) has seen little acting action of late. He landed a role in short-lived US series ‘Alcatraz’, a minor part in forgettable Spanish film ‘Maktub’ and reportedly tried his hand at stand-up, but that’s about it.

Terry O’Quinn (John Locke)
Episode count:

101
Having previously had minor parts in ‘The X-Files’, ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ and ‘Alias’, veteran Terry O’Quinn’s casting in ‘Lost’ was ample reward for years of hard graft. He’s not making the big time anytime soon though, with more low-key roles in TV guff like ‘Falling Skies’ and ‘666 Park Avenue’ on his CV. Stick to what you know best Terry.

Naveen Andrews (Sayid Jarrah)
Episode count:
98
Naveen seems destined to the life of supporting roles on TV. Since ‘Lost’ he’s pitched up in Sky’s version of ‘Sinbad’… and that’s about it. A shame, as his ass-kicking mystery man Sayid was one of the show’s most popular characters.

Daniel Dae Kim (Jin-Soo Kwon)
Episode count:

92
The closest Daniel has come since ‘Lost’ to commercial success is voicing the character of Johnny Gat in the ‘Saints Row’ video games. He’s pitched up in the ‘Hawaii Five-O’ reboot, but a movie career probably isn’t going to happen.

Yunjin Kim (Sun-Hwa Kwon)
Episode count:
88
‘Lost’ remains Yunjin’s only recognisable performance in much of the English-speaking world, however back in South Korea, which she left just aged 10, Yunjin has had reasonable success in both TV and film. Most significantly in biological thriller ‘Heartbeat’.

Emilie de Ravin (Claire Littleton)
Episode count:
72
The ‘pregnant one’ in ‘Lost’, Emile is also struggling to escape TV land. She was Robert Pattinson’s girlfriend in the rather whiny ‘Remember Me’, but has mostly been appearing in the daft ABC series ’Once Upon a Time'.

Dominic Monaghan (Charlie Pace)
Episode count:
65
Dominic Monaghan was one of few faces we recognised in ‘Lost’; he was Merry in ‘The Lord of the Rings' of course. Aside from an appearance in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, Monaghan has pretty much dropped off the radar since and seems to be taking it easy. We’ll leave him to his Hobbit-pipe.

Michael Emerson (Ben Linus)
Episode count:

61
Showered with awards throughout his run on ‘Lost’, Michael Emerson seemed a safe bet for success. With character actor looks and an endearingly weird presence, Emerson should be gobbling up juicy supporting films roles. Instead, he’s been doing voice work on the ‘G.I. Joe: Renegades’ cartoon.

Maggie Grace (Shannon Rutherford)
Episode count:

32
A ‘Lost’ success story (kind-off). She was Kim Mills, Liam Neeson’s luckless daughter in the ‘Taken’ films and was also bitter vampire Irina in ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2’. Nice work, Maggie.

Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert)
Episode count:

30
Nestor, who played ageless ex-slave Richard in the show, has only done two films of note since leaving ‘Lost’. Fortunately they were ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. He was Mayor Anthony Garcia and can expect invites to every geek convention from now until the end of time.

Michelle Rodriguez (Ana Lucia Cortez)
Episode count:

23
Both before and after ‘Lost’, Rodriguez has found film work easy to come by, from ‘The Fast and the Furious’ and ‘Resident Evil’ to ‘Avatar’. She is one of the most typecast stars in Hollywood (sassy, strong-willed action heroine) but work is work.

Rodrigo Santoro (Paulo)
Episode count:

7
Remember Xerxes, the Persian god-king from '300'? Of course you do. But do you remember actor Rodrigo Santoro from ‘Lost’? Appearing in just seven episodes, Brazilian born Rodrigo has made the most cult appearance since the series ended.  He was Raúl Castro in Soderbergh’s Che Guevara biopic, and will be returning once more to spite the Spartans in next year’s sequel ‘300: Battle of Artemisia’.

'Alex Cross' is in cinemas now.
