Alec Baldwin has spoken about why he turned down a major Marvel villain role.

It emerged in the summer that he was in line for a part, though he tantalisingly refuses to say which role it was (insert speculation here).

But the '30 Rock' star added that he was certainly up for it.

“Disney people and Marvel people who came to me and asked if I wanted to do a project with them, and I would of played a supporting part in the film,” he told The Playlist.

“And the answer was ‘Yes,’ I just couldn’t work it out schedule wise. I was perfectly willing to do it, I was very eager to do it.”

Baldwin was also awaiting the birth of his daughter Carmen with his wife Hilaria at the time.

His answer to the makers of the 'Grand Theft Auto' makers was the same, but for rather different reasons, he reveals.

“'Grand Theft Auto’ came to me to do a voice of some mobster, many years ago, for ‘Grand Theft Auto 2', and they offered this incomprehensible amount of money for one day’s work,” he added.

“And they offered me a pile of money, this ridiculous amount of money to just come in a record this voice for one or two days.

“And I turned them down because [the character] was a cop killer. And I didn’t want to get near that [because] of my reputation; I have enough problems with the press as it is. I said no.”

He would have joined some illustrious company in the voice cast for the feted video game series, including Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Liotta, Dennis Hopper, Juliette Lewis, Robert Loggia, James Woods and Burt Reynolds.
