Sally Field Dismisses Aunt May Spinoff Rumours

A couple of months ago maybe the stupidest comic-book rumour of all time started to do the rounds online. That’s because it was teased that ‘Spider-Man’s’ Aunt May might get her own solo adventure. Now Sally Field has heartily laughed this suggestion away.

The 68-year-old Oscar-winning actress guffawed at the mere suggestion that the character she portrayed so eagerly in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ might lead her own film, after she was informed of this rumour by The Huffington Post.

“Aunt May spinoff? And make her the lead? What would you do with her? She has no special powers whatsoever. She was a housewife waiting for the kids to come home,” Field expertly explained.

The first murmur that Sony were considering an Aunt May film came all the way back in November after Latino Review teased that the powers that be at the studio were actually in discussions about creating a film that focused on the character in her 20s. There was even a suggestion that the film would be akin to Peggy Carter’s treatment over at Marvel.

Pretty much everyone who read it roundly dismissed the story as poppycock, and Field’s hearty laughter and quip should bring the farcical ordeal to an immediate end.

Especially since Marvel and Sony are currently working together on another Spider-Man reboot, which will hopefully get the best of the beloved superhero.

The new incarnation of the webbed wonder will make his debut in a Marvel film in 2016, most likely ‘Captain America: Civil War’, before Sony give him his own origin story in 2017.
