Everly Trailer: Salma Hayek Brings The Pain

'Desperado' may have been almost twenty years ago (if that makes you feel old, you're not alone), but let there be no mistake - Salma Hayek still kicks ass, as is clearly demonstrated by this heart-thumping new US trailer for her upcoming movie 'Everly.'

Directed and co-written by Joe Lynch (filmmaker behind cult hits ‘Wrong Turn 2’ and ‘Knights of Badassdom’) who has described the film as “‘Die Hard’ in a room,” Hayek takes the title role as a call girl whose apartment home comes under attack by a slew of colourful assassins when a Yakuza boss puts out a hit on her family.

All the action takes place entirely within the confines of the apartment - reportedly the camera never leaves the single room - and, just to hammer home the ‘Die Hard’ influence, it’s even set at Christmas.

Shot in Serbia in 2013, director Lynch told Entertainment Weekly last September that the shoot was “challenging, [but] at the same time it was so liberating because it forced us to find new ways to execute all these scenes.

"This whole movie is a testament to pure cinema in one form or another. It’s trying to take every single tool that I have to tell the story and keep the audience engaged, even though I was stuck technically between four walls. Because obviously you can’t have a whole action movie take place in one room for 90 minutes without doing some sort of visual histrionics.”

Histrionic does seem like a good word to describe ‘Everly,’ given the sheer number of outlandish weapons and colourful characters we catch glimpses of in the trailer. It also seems safe to say the action will get pretty extreme, as the BBFC have given the film an 18 certificate for “strong bloody violence and torture.”

Entertainment One release ‘Everly’ to UK cinemas on 10 April 2015.
