Scarlett Johansson Wants A Black Widow Solo Movie

There’s been plenty of murmurs of a ‘Black Widow’ solo film over the years… and now it looks as though Scarlett Johansson is rather keen.

During an interview with Collider, the 30-year-old Avenger revealed that she’d jump at the chance to go solo… and has even spoken to Marvel boss Kevin Feige about the possibility of kick-starting a whole series.

“I’ve spoken to Kevin about it,” she revealed. “I mean, of course, of course we’ve had that conversation before, and I think Kevin would also like to see a standalone film. I think I can speak for him and say that. That’s all, really.”

“Right now I think this character is used well in this part of the universe,” she added. “But I think that Kevin—I mean, we’ve talked about it and we both share similar vision for what could be a standalone series.”

Of course, whether or not this means a ‘Black Widow’ solo series remains to be seen… but I get the feeling I’s more likely that she means a series of solo movies for the Avengers who sit in the background – such as Hawkeye and Black Widow.

That’s not to say that they aren’t equally as important to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but with the likes of Tony Stark and Thor running around, it’s easy to see why those more prominent heroes might steal the limelight.

“I think that there’s room for a standalone movie,” she said of Black Widow. Although with Marvel’s Phase Three already stuffed to the brim, it’s likely that it wouldn’t happen for some time.

“The character has a really rich origin story and I’ve been really fortunate to kind of place all these layers on top of one another and kind of build up this character to this point where I think I can now start to peel them away and reveal different sides of her and really focus on—I think I’ve been able to grow with the character, the character’s been able to grow with me.”

Although a ‘Black Widow’ solo film may not be happening anytime soon, it’s no secret that Johansson’s contract has rapidly evolved since she was first brought into the MCU. And with ‘Captain America: Civil War’ on the horizon, we’re likely to continue to see her appear alongside our favourite Avengers.

“It’s been a very good relationship back and forth and I think Marvel—the one thing about working with them is they don’t want anybody to work on the movie that doesn’t want to be there, obviously,” she said. “So whatever you’re contracted to should not feel like golden handcuffs, and they don’t want that either… I will certainly be around and that’s because it’s been such a great response. I mean, I’m always happy to put the cat suit back on, for sure.”

Will a ‘Black Widow’ solo movie happen eventually?

We’ll have to wait and see… but I can’t help thinking there’s always room for more Scarlett Johansson.
