Simon Pegg Seen On Star Wars VII Set

It looks as though Simon Pegg has been spotted on the ‘Star Wars VII’ set during filming in Abu Dhabi… after rumours that he may appear in the film.

It’s no secret that Simon Pegg is a massive ‘Star Wars’ fan. His anti-prequel rant in ‘Spaced’ has become a symbol of everything we felt about the ‘Phantom Menace’ at the time. But has the geeky British actor landed a role in ‘Star Wars VII’?

After rumours that he may appear in the galaxy far, far away, it seems he was spotted on set.

Helicopter pilot Andy Nettleton (who worked on the film in Abu Dhabi) revealed in an interview with The National that he spotted the ‘Star Trek’ actor on the ‘Star Wars VII’ set.

“We sat on the next table to J.J. Abrams and [British actor] Simon Pegg,” he said “I was standing at the salad counter getting my lettuce and cucumber, and Simon Pegg was standing next to me. It’s a strange experience – they look like normal human beings then in the movies they’re put under this spotlight.”

But does this really mean anything?

After rumours that Simon Pegg had visited the set in London, he was the first to admit that he’d been in to have a look around.

“Of course I visited the set,” he said back in June last year. “It’s amazing, and I love Star Wars. I want to see everything happening. It looks wonderful and you need to believe those characters. Any type of stunt casting might just pop you out of the movie.”

And he was rather keen to dispel those rumours…

“Look, I love Star Wars,” he said. “I don’t want people to watch and go, ‘Oh, there’s Simon Pegg’s face’.”

Of course, it didn’t take long for speculation to begin that perhaps Simon Pegg would appear in a costumed role, hiding his face. And that’s certainly a possibility. After all, security was rather tight during ‘Star Wars VII’ filming… and that could lead to a few surprises when the film heads to cinema screens.

Will Simon Pegg appear in the galaxy far, far away? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But the Force is getting stronger with this one.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.
