Spider-Man: Drew Goddard Tipped To Write & Direct MCU Reboot

Drew Goddard will write and direct the 2017 Spider-Man reboot according to a new report.

Latino Review believe the man once poised to make the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ spin-off ‘Sinister Six’ will be handed the reins to the new franchise.

As well as naming Goddard as the next writer and director, the report also states that the new series will be called ‘Spectacular Spider-Man’ and feature the Sinister Six in the first film.

Latino Review’s writer Kellvin Chavez claims that he kept the scoop from even his co-workers, and cites a high level source he met in person to get the information.

The source says that the new film will include Spider-Man “auditioning” to be part of the ‘Avengers’ team by facing off against Iron Man.

It is also said that the new film will not re-tread Spider-Man’s origin story but instead start with an active Spidey in high school, and that Sony and Marvel may cast an unknown actor in the lead role with the plan being for them to grow with the series as it rolls on.

Since Latino Review broke the news however, other websites have entered the fray to calm the speculation down. The Wrap states that ”Drew has not yet met with Marvel but will soon; along with several others,” while The Hollywood Reporter is more specific, saying Goddard will be meeting Marvel later today.

Both agree however that Goddard is still favourite to get the gig, but wanted to make sure fans know that any deal is not yet set.

Last month Marvel Studios and Sony jointly announced a deal to bring a rebooted Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe - starting with a likely appearance in next year’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

The solo ‘Spider-Man’ film will then follow on 28 July 2017.
