Spider-Man Might Appear In Avengers: Infinity War

After Marvel and Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ deal apparently broke down, it looks as though that might not be the end of it… as new talks indicate a cameo in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

After the high profile Sony Pictures hack, comic book fans can’t stop gossiping about the talks held between Marvel and Sony for use of the Spider-Man character. But while Peter Parker won’t make it to ‘Civil War’, he could still appear in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

But will he get a cameo in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’?

Thanks to Val Broeksmit, some new details have emerged regarding Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man talks… and it looks as though they didn’t end with ‘Civil War’.

In fact, it seems that Sony may be considering tying its own Spider-Man franchise into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Tony recruited [Spider-Man],” reads an e-mail to Sony Chief Executive Officer Michael Lynton. “Gave him the suit… he is now back at home with Aunt May in Queens and back in high school. It will not necessarily be a story from the Civil War saga but exist in the universe where superheroes are divided into two groups.”

Obviously, this ties Sony’s Spider-Man franchise into the events of Marvel’s ‘Civil War’… even if Spidey wasn’t around to see it all happen. And on top of that, it gives us a clue that Marvel is planning something huge with ‘Civil War’ – something that clearly reaches further than the plot of a single movie.

But what about Spider-Man’s proposed Marvel cameo?

“Avengers 3 and 4 or part one and two are going to be released May 2018 and 2019. Their ask is that he be in both of those movies. We need to guarantee that a second standalone ‘Spider-Man’ movie happens in 2019 at least so that is not too long in between standalone [Spider-Man] movies.”

Although I’d love to have seen Peter Parker make a cameo appearance in ‘Civil War’, it looks as though Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be pulling out all the stops in order to put an end to Thanos. And that includes recruiting Spider-Man to help with the fight.

But can this cameo really happen?

We’d already heard that discussion between Marvel and Sony had broken down… and that Spider-Man wouldn’t be joining the MCU. But could these new e-mails shed light on talks that have happened since?

I can’t help thinking that Sony Pictures isn’t in quite as strong a position as it was prior to the recent hack attacks… and that might just tip the odds in Marvel’s favour. Could Sony be more willing to accept their terms in a bid to recoup some recent losses?

It’s entirely possible.

Thankfully, it sounds as though Peter Parker might yet join the ranks of The Avengers… and if you ask me, that’s one of the coolest comic book crossovers that could ever happen.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ heads to cinemas on 4 May 2018 and 3 May 2019.
