SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Sponge Out Of Water Trailer Reveals New Look Team

There’s a new SpongeBob SquarePants movie coming and it looks as though the lovable sponge and his friends have been given a drastic makeover.

Although the trailer begins with SpongeBob, Patrick et al in their traditional 2D animated form, the gang must venture onto dry land “to save their world”, when it comes under attack from Antonio Banderas’ evil pirate antagonist.

When they come ashore, they are 3D CGI-animated. But that’s not the most radical transformation in the trailer which also, weirdly, features a cameo from rocker Slash.

For some reason, Patrick, SpongeBob, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and Plankton all get pumped up and turn into muscled heroes.

The anarchic spirit of the Nickelodeon cartoon is present and correct in this trailer for the second film, and we’re sure fans will love this new 3D makeover.

The first ‘SpongeBob’ movie came to cinemas in 2004 and featured a cameo from David Hasselhoff playing himself. Expect plenty more cameos in the new one too.
