Star Trek 3 Heads To Seoul

Although details of the upcoming ‘Star Trek’ sequel are few and far between, it looks as though ‘Star Trek 3’ will head to Seoul for filming… but will be mostly shot in Vancouver.

According to TrekMovie.com, the Facebook page of the Mayor Park Won-soon confirms that Seoul will play host to some location shooting for the upcoming ‘Trek’ sequel in 2016.

“Today I met with Jeffrey Chernov, producer of Star Trek 3, at the Paramount Pictures Studio,” they translated, “and agreed to film a portion of the upcoming movie in Seoul.”

This was later confirmed by Roberto Orci himself who stated, “the mayor was a lovely man”.

Of course, Seoul has recently hosted ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ as well as ‘The Bourne Legacy’… and now it looks as though it can add yet-another blockbuster franchise to the list. But how much filming will be done in the South Korean capital? At the moment, that remains unclear. But it seems the movie will primarily be shot in Vancouver.

“TrekMovie has learned that the current plan for the next Star Trek film is to primarily shoot it in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada,” they explained. “According to sources all the main sets will be set up in a studio in Vancouver and the British Columbia area will also be used for some location shooting as well. In fact, director Roberto Orci has been in Vancouver this week scouting locations. The plan is still to start shooting in mid-February, targeting a Summer 2016 release for the film.”

Apparently, Vancouver was chosen for principle photography due to its substantial tax breaks – a familiar incentive which has seen ‘Star Wars VII’ head to the UK. But how are they going to tackle those familiar ‘Star Trek’ sets? It seems they’ll probably be building them all from the ground up.

“According to sources the plan is to actually rebuild the Enterprise sets from scratch in Vancouver,” they reveal. “This is also being done to save money as rebuilding turns out to be cheaper than shipping and redressing. Many of the sets were redressed to stand in for the USS Vengeance and so returning to the Enterprise look would take a lot of work.”

‘Star Trek 3’ is expected to beam into cinemas by summer 2016.
