Star Wars 7 Could Kill Off A Hated Character

JJ Abrams has revealed that he wants to bring one of the ‘Star Wars’ universe’s most ignominious chapters to a close by finally killing off Jar Jar Binks.

The director of ’Star Wars: The Force Awakenstold Vanity Fair that he considered hiding the controversial character’s skeleton in the background of a scene as a nod to the franchise’s hardcore fans.

“I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks’s bones in the desert there,“ Abrams told the glossy mag, "I’m serious! Only three people will notice, but they’ll love it.”

The irritating Gungan was introduced in 1999’s 'Star Wars: Episode I’ as comic relief aimed at the franchise’s younger fans but he proved to be one of the most hated characters in the series’ long history.

Critics of George Lucas’ prequel trilogy think Jar Jar represents everything wrong with 'Episodes I-III’ in that he’s solely aimed at young children, he’s too reliant on CGI, and his character traits can be perceived as racial stereotyping. Most of all though he was just really, really rubbish.

As Simon Pegg’s character in 'Spaced’ neatly summed it up: "Jar Jar Binks makes the Ewoks look like f***ing Shaft!”

Lucas and Ahmed Best, the actor who played Binks, have always denied the racist implications of the character’s mannered performance but it hasn’t stopped the hatred directed towards Jar Jar over the years.

Joking or not, JJ Abrams is making all the right noises about 'Episode 7’ if he wants to appease the hardcore faithful.
