Star Wars 7 News: George Lucas Star Wars VII Script, Female Stormstrooper, Star Wars Spin-Off Casting And More

It’s a momentous week for ‘Star Wars’ fans after we saw the introduction of the first female stormtrooper… and George Lucas admitted that his own ‘Star Wars’ sequels were canned by Disney. But what’s in store for ‘Star Wars VII’ now its creator has been shoved to the side-lines?

image

We’ve also seen Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew hospitalised with pneumonia and some potential casting news about the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ spin-off. And there’s even a cool new video translating R2-D2’s beeps…

So let’s take a look back at the week’s ‘Star Wars’ news.

Star Wars VII Gets A Female Stormtrooper?

It’s not often that a stormtrooper gets shoved into the limelight, but this week saw British actress Amybeth Hargreaves unveiled as the first ever female stormtrooper… possibly.

image

The young British model and actress was revealed by BBC reporter Lizo Mzimba to be appearing as stormtrooper in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. It’s still unclear whether or not she’ll be donning a female trooper costume, or merely appearing as a bog standard soldier in the upcoming movie.

Either way, it’s promising news that ‘Star Wars’ is becoming that little bit more diverse. And that leads us nicely onto the next huge new item…

Star Wars Spin-Off Casting Female Lead

Although little is known about Gareth Edwards’ upcoming ‘Star Wars’ spin-off film, it looks as though he’s on the lookout for a female lead. And that begs the question – just who is the film about?

image

It’s already reported that ‘Orphan Black’ star Tatiana Maslany as well as Rooney Mara and Felicity Jones are being considered for the role… whatever it may be. But that doesn’t really tell us anything about the mysterious, upcoming movie.

Still, it’s another victory for gender equality… and it looks as though the ‘Star Wars’ franchise might just empower more young women with the Force.

Chewbacca Actor Hospitalised With Pneumonia

Some slightly sadder news this time, it looks as though peter Mayhew – that’s Chewbacca from the original ‘Star Wars’ movies – has been hospitalised with pneumonia.

image

Although he was forced to pull out of some upcoming fan commitments, it seems we don’t have to worry too much – he’s been treated for pneumonia and is reportedly doing well. Let’s just hope he’s back on his feet and ready to go for ‘Star Wars VII’.

Get well soon, Peter!

George Lucas Admits His Star Wars VII Script Was Scrapped

‘Star Wars’ creator George Lucas recently commented that he has no idea what’s going to happen in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. And now the reason for that has become clear – his original sequel scripts were scrapped by Disney.

image

The 70-year-old filmmaker revealed that after Disney bought the franchise for over $4 Billion, they decided against using his scripts – a project which had taken him at least a year before the sale to complete.

Still, it looks as though there are no hard feelings and he’s rather excited to watch ‘Star Wars’ with fresh eyes. And I can’t help thinking we dodged a bullet.

Star Wars VII’s Latest Cast Member

Although filming has already wrapped on ‘Star Wars VII’, we continue to see new names attached to the upcoming sequel. The latest of these is the Woman in Black herself, Leanne Best… but what kind of role has she nabbed?

image

Unfortunately, while Leanne’s role was unveiled in a PR e-mail, there were no further details… and that means her exact role is up for speculation. But with an influx of new names being linked to the movie, it’s difficult to pin it down.

After the major cast members were announced last year, it seems to me that these latest reveals will likely take the form of names extras or small, walk-on parts. But we’ll have to wait and see.

Star Wars VII Drawings Mistaken For Concept Art

Officially licensed ‘Star Wars’ artist Robert Bailey has produced some amazingly detailed drawings of the all-new ‘Star Wars VII’ X-Wing… and today found that his pictures have been mistaken for concept art.

image

After several fan sites suggested that his X-Wing drawings were from the production of ‘The Force Awakens’, I spoke to the man himself who confirmed that’s just not the case. But while his drawings aren’t anything to do with the film in an official capacity, they’re just absolutely stunning.

Let’s hope Robert does get to produce some concept pieces in the future.

R2-D2’s Beeps Translated

Have you ever wondered what R2-D2 has been saying all these years? Thanks to a new video, we get a glimpse into the mind of everyone’s favourite astromech… and he’s a lot funnier than we expected.

This rather awesome video by the folks at Eclectic Method shows us exactly what Artoo has been saying all these years… and it seems he’s a lot more sarcastic than we thought. Still, if I had to hang out with a bumbling protocol droid, I’m not sure I’d make the effort to be polite, either.

X-Wing-shaped Baby Rocker

A must-have for every young Rebel pilot, this rather awesome X-Wing-shaped baby rocker has been doing the rounds on social media.

Created by Steve’s Wooden Toys, this incredible replica would make an excellent nursery addition for the geeky baby with that Batmobile stroller… and it’s bound to win double geek points at your local comic con.

Death Star lightshade optional.
