Star Wars 7 Trailer Sets World Record

The Force is strong with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’… as the film’s second official trailer sets a rather impressive world record.

According to the Guinness World Records, the second ‘Star Wars VII’ trailer racked up a staggering 30.65 million views within a single day… making it the most watched movie trailer on YouTube in 24 hours.

“The release of the clip created unprecedented levels of excitement among ‘Star Wars’ fans around the world,” explained Guinness World Records. “With the trailer featuring the return of the charismatic [anti]-hero Han Solo, once again played by Harrison Ford, alongside his furry co-pilot Chewbacca.”

In fact, the trailer has now amassed a galaxy-busting 54.2 million views… and with a Guinness World Record under its belt before its even been released, we can’t help wondering how many other records ‘The Force Awakens’ is going to smash.

After all, it’s not the first time ‘Star Wars’ has held a world record.

The ‘Star Wars’ franchise on the whole also holds the world record for most successful film merchandising… and I’m sure there are plenty of us ‘Star Wars’ fans who have contributed to that.

“As of 2012, the total value of the Star Wars franchise was estimated at $30.5 billion, including box-office receipts as well as profits from their video games and DVD sales, with the much-hyped upcoming movie set to add further to the incredible financial success of the series.”

Of course, the second trailer is far more than just a record-breaker when it comes to the fans. It gave us our first proper glimpse at the villain o the piece, Kylo Ren… as well as the rather impressive new Chrome Trooper, Captain Phasma, played by Gwendoline Christie.

And while we were all awe-struck at the downed Star Destroyer and explosive battle footage, it was the clip of Han and Chewie that raised the biggest applause. After all, it’s what we’ve all been waiting for.

Can ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ break any other world records? For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but I get the feeling that ‘Jurassic World’s recent box office success might be short lived.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.
