Star Wars Digital Collection Shows That Han Shot First?

Han shot first. It's a fact. And now the ‘Star Wars’ digital movie collection may be about to prove it once and for all…

It’s no secret that George Lucas made plenty of unnecessary changes in the ‘Star Wars’ special editions… and the most notorious was making Greedo shoot first. You know the scene – when Greedo confronts Han at the cantina and our favourite smuggler blasts his opponent under the table with a sneaky blaster volley.

But now it looks as though that controversial change could be revered…

According to the folks at Badass Digest, the release of the ‘Star Wars’ digital movie collection is going to be a lot more important than we imagined…

“If the reports I’m hearing are correct something exciting will be included in this release,” they revealed. “The first Star Wars, aka A New Hope, will have a major change made to it, technically making this a new special edition…”

“If my sources are correct - and we’ll know in about 24 hours - Han will now shoot first in this edition of Star Wars.”

But why is that so important?

George Lucas made the change back in 1997 for the special edition ‘Star Wars’ release, presumably to make the film more child friendly. After all, we can’t have one of the main characters killing someone in cold blood, can we?

And so Han Solo’s hair-trigger reflex and smuggler’s instinct was wiped out.

While the original version saw the only shot coming from Han Solo’s blaster pistol, Lucas added a second shot from Greedo, just in front of Han’s original blaster shot… making Han just that little bit more child-friendly. And taking away his street cred in the process.

“It’s probably one of the most egregious changes made to the Original Trilogy (and a lot of those changes were egregious) and now, almost two decades after it was included in the Special Edition, it will be gone.”

Of course, the new digital movie collection will be released tomorrow on 10 April 2015… so it’s not exactly a long wait to find out the truth.

Will Han Solo shoot first? If he does, this could be the most significant change to the ‘Star Wars’ universe since Disney took the reins. And it’s likely to win over a lot of fans.
