Star Wars: Emperor Palpatine's First Name Has Been Revealed

The ‘Star Wars’ universe is loaded with cracking names: Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Obi Wan Kenobi… Kit Fisto.

So when we saw that the franchise’s big bad Emperor Palpatine’s first name had been revealed for the first time we were confident it would be suitably badass for the dark ruler of the galactic Empire.

So what is it?

It’s Sheev. Sheev Palpatine. Like Steve, but Sheev.

Hmmmm.

The name was revealed at a panel at this past weekend’s New York Comic Con for new comic A New Dawn (via Star Wars Underground). The name itself comes from James Luceno’s new novel ‘Tarkin’ - which tells the story of the aforementioned high ranking Imperial officer.

Palpatine’s Wookieepedia page was updated as well, with the citation listing page 93 of the novel. Clearly those in charge of the sprawling encyclopaedia of ‘Star Wars’ knowledge got an advanced copy of the book.

So there it is, Sheev Palpatine. Not so scary now, is he? Hand-lightning or no hand-lightning.

We also looked up Tarkin’s first name, which is apparently Wilhuff… are unthreatening forenames a prerequisite to joining the Imperial elite?  No wonder they were toppled by just a few hundred people.

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ is set for release next December, and we hope fresh faces John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Drive are given better, more kick-ass names, like Joey Joe Joey or Len.
