Star Wars: JJ Abrams Wanted For Episode 9 Return
Disney and LucasFilm want JJ Abrams to return to the ‘Star Wars’ series after Rian Johnson has directed ‘Episode 8’ for a 2017 release according to fresh reports.

The rumour comes from Latino Review, who say Disney execs are “very happy” with the footage they’ve seen from this December’s ‘The Force Awakens’ and would love to see the ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Super 8’ man to come back and finish the sequel trilogy he is starting.
Last week Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed details of Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars: Rogue One spin-off and the direct follow-up to ‘The Force Awakens’. Rogue One will be released in December 2016 while Johnson’s Episode 8 will hit cinemas in May 2017.
Johnson, who is also writing the next film’s script, has been rumoured to also be directing Episode XI and writing at least a treatment for it. The ‘Looper’, ‘Brick’ and ‘Breaking Bad’ director has proven a popular pick in the media and among fans, but should this new report prove accurate it shows a reluctance from Disney to stick with him if the surer hand of Abrams can be wooed.
This is nothing more than a rumour for now, but if there’s any truth to it that would be a big testament to the quality of Abrams’ forthcoming film.
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ is set for release on 18 December.
