Star Wars: The Force Awakens Character Names Revealed

It’s not long since we got our first glimpse of ‘Star Wars VII’ and some of its new heroes and now we’ve got some new names to put to their faces.

Director J.J. Abrams and Producer Kathleen Kennedy have taken the rather novel approach of revealing the names of some of these new characters exclusively to Entertainment Weekly with some rather awesome, old-school trading cards.

But what do they reveal?

- David Fincher Approached For Star Wars VII?
- Star Wars VII Woodland Battle

“We’re getting to know the characters played by John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac,” explains EW. “As well as that shadowy figure in the snow with the crossguard lightsaber.”

And thanks to the trading card titles, we even get a hint as to what’s going on…

“#11 - BB-8 on the move, #53 - Poe Dameron in his X-Wing, #67 - Kylo Ren ignites his Lightsaber, #74 - Rey on her Speeder, #76 - Finn on the run, #81 - Stormtroopers prepare for battle, #88 - X-Wings in formation, #96 - The Millennium Falcon.”

Just to clarify, that gives the cute new ball droid the name ‘BB-8’. And the following is a list of all the new actors and their cool character names.

Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron

Daisy Ridley as Rey

John Boyega as Finn

Although the identity of the hooded Sith-like figure remains a mystery, it looks as though we can now call him by his character name – Kylo Ren. But it seems we may still have to wait to find out whether or not that’s Adam Driver under the hood.

Still, this gives us our first real insight into the newest faces of the galaxy far, far away. And there’s one big question that has to arise from these newly revealed names – why don’t Daisy Ridley and John Boyega’s characters have surnames?

We’ve heard plenty of rumours that Daisy Ridley may in fact be the daughter of Han and Leia… but does Boyega’s surname give the game away too? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But with a whole host of other new names still to be revealed, I get the feeling there’ll be more of those awesome retro trading cards on their way in the coming months.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.
