The first footage from Stardust, the upcoming film about David Bowie, has been released.

The film, which centres on the late British musician’s transformation into his Ziggy Stardust persona in the early 1970s, features Johnny Flynn as Bowie.

An established folk singer, Flynn is also known for his roles in Netflix’s Lovesick and 2017 thriller Beast. Jena Malone, who appeared in Tom Ford’s 2016 neo-noir Nocturnal Animals, plays Bowie’s wife Angie.

A clip shared by Variety sees Flynn’s Bowie speaking with publicist Ron Oberman, portrayed by Marc Maron.

“All it takes is one believer to change the world, right? And we’ve got two,” says Maron. “You believe in yourself, don’t you?”

Stardust was set to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival this week, but the event was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

While press will be able to see the film this week, its new general release date is not yet known.

Emmy award-winning British filmmaker Gabriel Range (I Am Slave) directs the project written by Christopher Bell (The Last Czars).
