Stephen Hawking Wants To Play A Bond Villain

It may seem like a strange admission, but Professor Stephen Hawking has revealed that he rather likes the idea of becoming a Bond villain.

During an interview with Wired Magazine, the world-renowned physicist revealed that he has aspirations to take on James Bond himself… and appear as a new Bond villain.

“My idea role would be a baddie in a James Bond film,” he joked. “I think the wheelchair and the computer voice would fit the part.”

Of course, the idea of seeing Professor Stephen Hawking take to the big screen isn’t exactly as weird as it sounds. After all, he’s already appeared in The Simpsons as well as an episode of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ – playing a game of poker with Data, Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein.

And then there’s the recent film made about his life – ‘The Theory of Everything’ starring Eddie Redmayne as a young Stephen Hawking. Documenting his struggles with the onset of Motor Neurone Disease, it follows Hawking from the 1960s through to the 1980s. And it’s already causing quite a stir when it comes to the big screen.

“I was able to speak with a speech synthesiser, though it gave me an American accent,” he told Wired. “I have kept that voice, because it’s now my trademark. Before I lost my voice, it was slurred, so only those close to me could understand, but with the computer voice, I found I could give popular lectures.”

“I enjoy communicating science,” he added. “It is important that the public understands basic science, if they are not to leave vital decisions to others.”

Of course, while he was perhaps joking about the Bond villain role, I can’t help thinking that if anyone has the guts to do it, it’s Professor Stephen Hawking. Could we eventually see him make the transition from lecture halls to the big screen? Part of me really hopes so…
