Studio Ghibli's The Tale Of Princess Kaguya Poster And UK Release Unveiled

Since its release in Japan in November of 2013, there’s not been much said about Studio Ghibli’s ‘The Tale of Princess Kaguya’, until now that is.

Empire have now shared the brand new poster, which is rather gorgeous, we have to admit. What’s more, the UK cinema release for the film has been confirmed for 20 March, so not long for fans to wait.

With no involvement from Hayao Miyazaki — who’s since retired after completing his final feature, ‘The Wind Rises’ — his fellow studio founder, the talented Isao Takahata, assumes directing and writing credits for their latest.

Takahata may have been absent from the Ghibli line-up in recent years (the last feature he helmed under the studio was 1999’s ‘My Neighbors The Yamadas’), but he’s by no means a stranger to the anime world, with his other praised works include the heartbreaking ‘Grave of the Fireflies’, ‘Pom Poko’ and ‘Only Yesterday’.

'The Tale of Princess Kaguya' has not only received rave reviews but it's also been nominated for an Oscar at this year's ceremony. Alongside four other titles for Best Animation, including Disney's 'Big Hero 6', the nomination sees a welcomed return for Takahata who'll continue to direct Ghibli movies.

Whether the film will walk away from Oscar night with the award is uncertain, but the imminent UK release of ‘The Tale of Princess Kaguya’ is a welcomed one, especially for the anime fans out there. That said, it will likely be a limited one, with the likelihood that Picturehouse Cinemas will show a handful of screenings, rather than appearing at the bigger, more mainstream chains.
