Suicide Squad To Feature Deathstroke?

‘Suicide Squad’ might just feature another classic DC villain… fan favourite, Deathstroke.

According to the folks at JoBlo, the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ will feature an appearance from Deathstroke… but he probably won’t be joining the team.

“Deathstroke is indeed in the film,” they revealed. “Although Joe Manganiello is the first choice for the role, Jason Clarke also being considered. Apparently, director David Ayer has been trying to ‘get his own people’ on the project as much as possible.”

Joe Manganiello is perhaps best known for his recurring role in ‘True Blood’… but has appeared on the big screen in ‘Magic Mike’. Of course, he’s also had a dabbling with the superhero genre once before, appearing as Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Spider-Man 3’.

And let’s not forget that Manganiello has worked with David Ayer already, on the 2014 Arnie film, ‘Sabotage’.

Jason Clarke is another matter entirely… and if you ask me, he’s a more natural fit for what’s likely to be a very action-oriented role. Having appeared in numerous films on the big screen, he’s no stranger to those action roles, and will star as John Connor in ‘Terminator Genisys’.

But will either of them land the role?

As for the character himself, it looks as though he might go up against the Suicide Squad… and it’s all to do with their contracts.

“Deathstroke will be a ‘hired assassin that is competing with the Suicide Squad’ and not part of the team or a bodyguard as has been previously rumoured,” they revealed. Quite how that will work remains to be seen. But Deathstroke won’t be the only foe they’re forced to face.

“The Joker ‘is scarred all over his body because of his battles with Batman’,” they reveal. “He continually ‘plays mind games with people and twists [their] minds’. We’ve already heard that he’s very much inspired by Hannibal Lecter in that sense and our source indicates that ‘everyone is afraid of him’.”

But that’s not all. It seems there are more rumours of a potential Batman cameo… but it all depends on Ben Affleck’s schedule.

“Apparently, Batman ‘is mentioned in the script and even shown on surveillance cameras’ with Amanda Waller ‘after him for something’. As for an actual appearance from Affleck himself, that’s said to be dependent on his schedule, so it’s not set in stone, but certainly a good possibility.”

Either way, it looks as though ‘Suicide Squad’ is likely to be the gateway into DC’s Cinematic Universe… bringing numerous heroes and villains to the big screen in an entirely interconnected way.

Will it work as a movie? We’ll have to wait and see. But the thought of seeing Deathstroke on the big screen is an exciting one.

‘Suicide Squad’ heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.
