Super Bowl 2015 Adverts: What Movie Trailers Can We Expect To See?

On Sunday, 1 February the New England Patriots will take on the Seattle Seahawks at Arizona’s University of Phoenix stadium in the NFL Super Bowl XLIX. Unless you follow American Football, that’ll make zero sense, and you probably couldn’t care less.

However hardcore movie fans will have the Super Bowl date marked in their calendars as it’s the day Hollywood unleashes a load of previously unseen trailers for the year’s biggest movies during its many commercial breaks.

At a cost of $4.5m (£3m) for a 30-second spot, only the most prestigious tentpole films can afford to make an appearance, so here’s which trailers you can expect to see during the Super Bowl 2015… and online shortly after.

Confirmed

Jurassic World

Deadline reports that we’ll see a new trailer for Colin Trevorrow’s much anticipated dino-fourquel. We’re hoping to see some new footage after the impressive first trailer debuted late last year.

Terminator Genisys

The new trailer for the fifth ‘Terminator’ film has already arrived online. Watch it below for some awesome young Arnie vs Old Arnie action.

Ted 2

A full length trailer for Seth McFarlane’s foul-mouthed comedy sequel is already available to watch below, but expect Mark Wahlberg and Ted himself to dominate the online conversation during the ads when a shorter, and probably less crude version airs.

Minions

The ‘Despicable Me’ spin-off will debut a brand new trailer during this Sunday’s game. As you can judge from its first trailer above, you can expect goobledigook-spouting critters and lots of slapstick gags.

Tomorrowland: A World Beyond

Disney will lift the lid on its mysterious summer blockbuster during the Super Bowl’s commercial break. The studio will hope to raise awareness of its George Clooney-starring fantasy epic that, up to now, has remained a bit of an enigma.

The Divergent Series: Insurgent

The next trailer for Shailene Woodley’s YA thriller is already online exclusively with MTV, but it will still occupy one of the prime spots during the pregame show on NBC.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water

We’ve already seen a couple of impressive trailers for Paramount’s animated March feature, but the film’s anarchic streak will probably lead to something memorable during its Super Bowl spot.

Seventh Son

Universal’s fantasy epic was originally scheduled for release in 2013, but various delays and production woes have pushed it back to 2015. Can Jeff Bridges’ grizzled presence draw audiences in on match day?

Kingsman: The Secret Service

Matthew Vaughn’s comic book adaptation is actually out in the UK already, so don’t expect this ad to make much noise on this side of the pond.

Rumoured

Other films that could potentially make an appearance during the Super Bowl commercials on Sunday include: ‘Fast and Furious 7’, ‘Pitch Perfect 2’, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’, ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’.

In the case of ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Avengers’, it’s thought there’s enough natural hype around those films that they won’t need to spend the $4.5m for the spots, so we think it’s highly unlikely they’ll make an appearance. As for ‘Batman v Superman’, which isn’t due for release until 2016, that could just be wishful thinking.

However, Marvel did release a new TV spot for ‘Age of Ultron’ so it could appear, but why wait until Sunday when you can watch it right here, right now?

However, should new trailers land for any of the rumoured films, expect to see them on Yahoo Movies on Monday morning.
