Sylvester Stallone Moving Forward With Rambo 5

Combat fatigues and headbands at the ready - Sylvester Stallone is reportedly moving ahead with a fifth movie in his ‘Rambo’ series.

News emerged last year that a Rambo-based TV series is in the offing (not starring Stallone), thanks to the prolific producer behind ‘The Expendables’ and the first rebooted ‘Rambo’ movie Avi Lerner.

But now it looks like another full-length Rambo tale with Sly in the hot seat is on the cards too.

A statement from German distributor Splendid Film says that it now has the rights to the next ‘Rambo’ movie, and a screenplay from Stallone is ready to go.

Translated from the original Deutsche,  it reads:

“With ‘Rambo V’ Sylvester Stallone returns in his iconic role. This time he goes up against a Mexican cartel. Stallone, who has also written the screenplay, describes the new Rambo as his version of ‘No Country for Old Men.’ Like the last film, ‘Rambo V’ is produced by Avi Lerner (‘The Expendables 1-3’).”

It seems to be a rather radical departure – perhaps back to normality – from a synopsis for the fifth ‘Rambo’ movie that was issued in 2009, a year after Sly returned to play his gnarled Vietnam veteran.

That story revolved around John Rambo and a crack team being despatched to the Arctic Circle to track a half-human ‘abomination’ created illegally by a renegade agency that is wreaking ‘bloody havoc’ and threatening to reach civilization.

Mexican cartels seem far more suitable by comparison.

Stallone first appeared as Rambo way back in 1982 with the smash hit ‘First Blood’, then in 1985 with the sequel ‘Rambo: First Blood Part II’ and ‘Rambo III’ in 1988.

The rebooted franchise then emerged in 2008 with the astonishingly violent ‘Rambo’, set in Burma.

No word yet on when the next movie might appear as yet, but we’ll keep you posted…
