Taron Egerton Linked To Star Wars Spin-Off

It looks as though Taron Egerton could be headed to the galaxy far, far away… as a new rumour links him to the role of Han Solo in an upcoming ‘Star Wars’ spin-off.

After turning plenty of heads in ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’, the 25-year-old seems to have made an impression. Starring opposite Colin Firth in the over-the-top spy comedy may have brought him to the attention of the folks at Disney…

And all that swagger might even have landed him one of the most iconic ‘Star Wars’ roles of all time.

According to The Sun (via The Daily Mail), Egerton has been linked to the role of Han Solo in one of the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ spin-off movies.

“Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton is wanted for the lead role,” they revealed. But while the first ‘Star Wars’ spin-off is coming in 2016, Egerton’s supposed role is for the one after that.

“The film will reportedly reveal how Harrison Ford’s iconic character got the Millennium Falcon and as well as showing how he fell out with Jabba the Hutt,” they said. “Filming for another spin-off focused on bounty hunter, Boba Fett, stealing plans for the Death Star will have to be completed before the Solo spin-off can begin.”

But can we really believe the reports?

Let’s face it – The Sun isn’t exactly the most reliable source when it comes to Hollywood casting news… and the fact that we heard it there first does ring alarm bells. But there’s been an interesting twist already after comic book writer Mark Millar dropped a not-so-subtle hint.

“Taron shot first,” he tweeted. “#justsayin”

Obviously, this refers to Han Solo – and the controversy surrounding George Lucas’ decision to change a scene in the original ‘Star Wars’ so that Han doesn’t shoot first. And Millar has followed this up with another Han Solo reference…

“Okay, let’s get back to training, @TaronEgerton,” he said. “Repeat after me: ‘Laugh it up, fuzzball’.”

But does this really confirm what we think?

Although many fans are taking this a sign from someone who may be in the know, it’s more likely to be a knowing joke between friends. After all, the ‘news’ of Taron’s ‘Star Wars’ role likely caused a bit of a stir amongst those who work with him – especially if it’s all nonsense.

Or perhaps Taron really is in contention for the role, and Millar is showing his support.

Either way, we’ll just have to wait and see. But if Taron is up for the role of Han Solo… well, I could certainly see him holding his own.

The first ‘Star Wars’ spin-off heads to cinemas on 16 December 2016.
