2014 saw the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ franchise rebooted with a hugely successful live-action version which took a cool $485 million.

Naturally, and with domestic ticket sales soaring in its opening few days, a followup was green lit and will be in cinemas come summer 2016.

With just over 12 months until release, it’s perhaps no shock to hear that the production is well underway, with reports claiming that the big budget adventure will commence filming in just a few weeks time.

The aptly named ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2′ is set to film in New York and Buffalo, with around $70 million of their overall budget being spent there. And according to Paramount, a sizeable $63 million of that will go on the New York shoot, where the film will predominantly be based.

Dave Green (’Earth to Echo’) is set to take over directing duties from Jonathan Liebesman, the helmer of the first, and at present there’s no word on whether we will see Megan Fox and Will Arnett return to the fray.

With specific details around the film’s plot or shoot kept relatively secret, it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing the Heroes in a Half-Shell remaining in their beloved New York, but any news on baddies, new characters and what exactly will happen is still firmly under wraps. Will we finally see Krang, Bebop or Rocksteady? Even Casey Jones?

Stay tuned over the coming weeks for all your TMNT needs.

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2′ is in UK cinemas on 3 June, 2016.
