Boy Suspended For Threatening Classmates With "The One Ring"

Nine-year-old AidenSteward from Kermit, Texas, might be about the size of a Hobbit, but he sadly lacks any actual magical jewellery that can transport him to another realm.

Still, claiming he could make another boy disappear using ‘one ring to rule them all’ didn’t stop him from getting suspended from Kermit Elementary.

According to the New York Daily News, the playground remark came just a few days after he’d watched ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ at home.

Then during some playground make-believe, he said he could make another boy invisible by placing a ring on his head.

“It sounded unbelievable,” Aiden’s dad Jason told the New York Daily News, adding that he ‘didn’t mean anything by it’.

“Kids act out movies that they see. When I watched Superman as a kid, I went outside and tried to fly.”

In an email to the school, Mr Steward said: “I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence.

“If he did, I’m sure he’d bring him right back.”

Thus far the school’s principle Roxanne Greer has not commented on the incident, other than telling the Odessa American website: “All student stuff is confidential.”

Since moving to the school last August, Aiden has had a couple of other run-ins, however, one after referring to a classmate as black and another for bringing in his favourite book to school, ‘The Big Book of Knowledge’, which featured a section on pregnancy and an illustration of a pregnant woman.

“He loves that book. They were studying the solar system and he took it to school. He thought his teacher would be impressed,” said Mr Steward.
