The Daft Reason For Johnny Depp's Pirates Of The Caribbean Injury

It wasn’t a cutlass or a stray hook, nor was it a splinter from the poop deck… nope, Johnny Depp was flown back to the US this week after hurting his hand while go-karting, it’s emerged.

News from the production of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ arrived earlier this week, informing us that Depp had sustained an injury ‘off-set’.

According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, Depp was a guest at the ‘palatial’ estate of Australian motorcyclist and former Moto GP world champion Mick Doohan over the weekend.

The property, in Coomera, Queensland, boasts many mod cons, including 16 hectares of grounds, tennis courts and outdoor pools.

But it was on Doohan’s own private racing track that Depp was karting when he wounded his hand.

Depp was spotted boarding a private jet on Tuesday afternoon, in which he was flying back to Los Angeles to have surgery.

Though he will be out of action for two weeks, seemingly the incident is not likely to cause any significant delay to the production of the $250 million Hollywood behemoth.

Which is no doubt a relief to the movie’s insurance company.

Depp has been making hay while in Australia.

He was spotted in Brisbane last month attending a Marilyn Manson gig, and was also seen checking out the Foo Fighters a few days earlier.

The movie, which will also star Aussie actor Geoffrey Rush and Javier Bardem, playing villain Captain Salazar, is aiming for a July 2017 release.

The Depp injury followed news that a ‘real-life’ pirate had allegedly threatened a member of the security staff on the film.

The man (see below), complete with shoulder parrot, was later arrested.
