The Guest Director Adam Wingard Set To Enter The Woods

Adam Wingard, director of recent cult hits ‘The Guest’ and ‘You’re Next,’ in venturing back into horror territory with a new movie entitled ‘The Woods,’ which he will direct for Lionsgate.

No, we can’t quite believe a new horror movie from a fairly high profile director would choose a title quite so prosaic and so reminiscent of a great many films to have gone before it (not least 2006’s ‘The Woods’ and 2012’s ‘The Cabin in the Woods;’ ‘The Woods’ was also the original title of M Night Shyamalan’s ‘The Village,’ and the upcoming ‘The Hallow’).

Still, based on Wingard’s CV to date, this is definitely one worth keeping an eye out for.

The Hollywood Reporter announce that Wingard has co-written ‘The Woods’ with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett (pictured left with the director above), and that their ‘The Guest’ and ‘You’re Next’ producers Jessica Wu and Keith Caldwell are also on board, along with producers Roy Lee and Steven Schneider.

All that has been revealed of the plot is that it features “a group of college students on a camping trip who discover they are not alone.” Sounds familiar enough - but Wingard’s films have a way of putting a new spin on well-worn genre conventions.

Prior to breaking through in the mainstream with ‘You’re Next’ and ‘The Guest,’ Wingard was a well-regarded indie horror filmmaker, shooting such low-budget efforts as ‘Home Sick, ‘Pop Skull’ and ‘A Horrible Way To Die.’ Arguably his first big break to a wider audience was his contributions to anthology horror movies ‘V/H/S’ and ‘The ABCs of Death.’

Wingard is currently at work on TV movie ‘Outcast,’ written by ‘The Walking Dead’ creator Robert Kirkman.
