The Joker: First Official Look At Jared Leto As Suicide Squad Villain

‘Suicide Squad’ director David Ayer has revealed the first official look at Jared Leto as The Joker.

Taking to Twitter, Ayer used the character’s 75th anniversary as reason for sharing the first picture of the iconic villain.

The look might prove controversial, and is certainly a big departure from the two big screen versions of the character before - played by Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger.

Covered in tattoos and bearing teeth that would make a dentist wince, this Joker looks half-rock star, half-meth-head, the former being in line with Leto’s own career as front man for 30 Seconds For Mars.

There are still classic elements to the character however, the green hair, purple glove and look of complete insanity are all very much in line all variations of Batman’s arch-nemesis.

'Suicide Squad’ will tell the story of a rag-tag group of imprisoned supervillains tasked with dangerous black ops missions by the US government.

In the prison where the film will being is The Joker - who we presume will be too dangerous to be included in the missions, but whose girlfriend Harley Quinn will be.

Joker and Quinn’s abusive relationship has never been depicted on the big screen before, so there’s something to be explored with this Clown Prince that hasn’t been seen before.

Joining Leto and Robbie will be Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg.

The film is set to be released on 5 August 2016.
