The LEGO Movie Sequel Director Confirmed

The director to the follow-up of the hugely popular ‘The LEGO Movie’ has been announced as ‘Community’s’ Rob Schrab.

Having already helmed a number of the hit comedy show’s episodes, this will in fact be Schrab’s first feature.

Warner Bros. exec Greg Silverman revealed not only the director of the sequel, but the title of the next LEGO flick as well;

“’The LEGO Movie’ captivated critics and audiences on a global scale with its irresistible blend of humor, imagination and fun.  Warner Bros. is excited to build our relationship with The LEGO Group with this new adventure, and we join them in welcoming the multi-talented Rob Schrab to the LEGO family as he takes the helm of ‘The LEGO Movie Sequel’.”

It may seem like a minor detail, but instead of referring to it as ‘The LEGO Movie 2’, it’s got an official (if a little more simple and obvious) title of ‘The LEGO Movie Sequel’.

And Schrab is no newcomer to comedy, having also directed episodes of ‘Parks & Recreation’ and ‘The Mindy Project’. He’s been nominated for a WGA Award for writing, directing, and producing ‘The Sarah Silverman Program’, and has earned a Best Writing Annie nod in 2007 for his efforts on animated movie ‘Monster House’.

'The LEGO Movie' recently suffered a complete Oscar snub (much to the dismay of fans) regardless of its critical praise, big box office takings, and the fact it was a popular hit the world over. However, with Schrab on board for a sequel the original's directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are writing, there's every chance the LEGO franchise could do better at a future Academy Awards.
