'The Martian' Trailer: Matt Damon Gets Lost in Space

Matt Damon is stranded in space. Again.

In director Ridley Scott’s upcoming space drama The Martian — the first trailer for which you can see above — the Oscar-winner stars as Mark Watney, a very personable (but also unlucky) botanist and astronaut who gets left on Mars when his ship gets caught up in a horrible storm on the desert planet. (Yes, it sounds a lot like the secretive role that Damon played in Interstellar, but at least he’s not the bad guy this time.)

Once Watney regains consciousness, he’s all alone on the barren surface, with only a month of supplies left to sustain him and no way to contact earth. And so, he decides to “science the s—t” out of what little he has — think of him as a space McGyver — until he can figure out how to send a message to the crew that once abandoned him.

That loyal crew includes Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig and Donald Glover, many of whom you can meet in the intro video that 20th Century Fox posted over the weekend. The Martian, based on the hit novel by Andy Weir, hits theaters on November 25.
