Timothy Spall Reveals Impressive Weight-Loss

Timothy Spall has unveiled an impressively svelte new look, while appearing on the red carpet at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards.

The veteran British star cut a slim dash at the Tao Downtown in NYC on Monday evening, as he scored the best actor prize for his role in Mike Leigh’s awards-trawling ‘Mr Turner’.

Of the gong, Spall told the Hollywood Reporter: “We all pretend that awards are not important, but man, when you get one… it’s just really, really f**king lovely.”

Spall has been doing the publicity and awards tour for the movie since it won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival last May.

But rarely has the 57-year-old star of movies like ‘Secrets & Lies’, ‘The King’s Speech’ and the ‘Harry Potter’ films looked so slim.

Spall is almost certainly set for a Best Actor Oscar nomination when they nominees are announced on January 15, with the movie, about the artist J.M.W. Turner, also likely up for Best Picture.

That said, he is notable by his absence on the list of Golden Globe nominees, with Eddie Redmayne, Benedict Cumberbatch and David Oyelowo leading the British charge in the Best Actor category.

Whether Spall has slimmed for a new role is not clear.

Next up, he’s set for New York period piece ‘New Amsterdam’, playing Dutch merchant Willem Kieft opposite Famke Janssen.

After that he’s rumoured for comedy ‘Full Bodied’, in which he’d be joining a solid British cast including Miranda Richardson, Eddie Marsan, Jessica Brown Findlay, Ashley Jensen, Bernard Hill and Jack Whitehall.
