Tom Hardy Says He'll Never Do Another Rom-Com After 'Miserable' This Means War

No one liked the roundly-panned 2012 rom-com ‘This Means War’ much – and now we can very much include its star Tom Hardy in that number.

In fact such was his disappointment in the movie, directed by McG, the ‘Dark Knight’ star has said that he’ll never do another rom-com again.

Hardy buddied up with Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon in the movie, about CIA agents who discover they’re dating the same woman, but it was a joyless experience.

Speaking to USA Today, and explaining why, if he’s generally known for grittier roles, he took the role in the first place, Hardy said: “I love to do things I hadn’t done before,.

“I didn’t understand how you could do something which is so much fun and be so miserable doing it.”

Hardy added that he felt ‘other’ while on the film’s set, and said: “I probably won’t do a romantic comedy again, do you know what I mean?”

Indeed, it probably wasn’t the best choice as a first foray into the genre.

It currently languishes with a 26% ‘fresh’ rating on the reviews aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes.

Rolling Stone described the movie as being ‘death-sentenced by a lack of humor, heart and a coherent reason for being’.

Veteran critic Richard Roeper was even less kind, calling it ‘one of the worst movies of this or any other year’, while the legendary Roger Ebert said it was ‘an incompetent stupid action comedy’ that was ‘so bad it’s nothing else but bad’.

That said, the movie was not an unmitigated financial disaster.

It made £96.2 million on a budget of $40 million, likely making a small profit after marketing and advertising costs.
