Gird your loins, Hiddlestoners, for here is the first look at Tom Hiddleston in Guillermo Del Toro’s forthcoming horror, ‘Crimson Peak’.

The long-in-development project, which he wrote following his breakthrough ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, but was postponed while he made ‘Hellboy II’, is due out in October.

Hiddleston plays Sir Thomas Sharpe, ‘a charming hero with a mysterious past’, and husband to author Edith Cushing, played by Mia Wasikowska, of Tim Burton’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’ fame.

Set in Cumbria, in the confines of the crumbling mansion pictured above, Cushing finds that her husband is not who he appears to be.

All very Hammer Horror…

The supporting cast is impressive too, with Charlie Hunnam and Jessica Chastain in pivotal roles.

It’s a welcome return to the dark side for Del Toro (above), who was last seen behind the camera bringing giant robots and kaiju to life in ‘Pacific Rim’.

Tantalisingly, he has described the movie thusly: “Basically what it is is a really, really, almost classical gothic romance ghost story, but then it has two or three scenes that are really, really disturbing in a very, very modern way. Very, very disturbing, it’s a proper R rating. And it’s adult.”

You had us at ‘classical gothic’, Guillermo.

Also starring ‘Justified’s Jim Beaver, Del Toro regular Doug Jones and Leslie Hope, it lands in the UK October 16.
