With ‘Toy Story 4′ now officially happening, Disney have announced that John Lasseter will be joined by a co-director in the shape of Josh Cooley.

Revealed at Disney Insider, Cooley — described as one of the company’s “rising stars” — began his career at Pixar in the story department as an intern on ‘Cars’. For Pixar’s upcoming movie, ‘Inside Out’, he was the Head of Story, which seems like a huge task considering the importance of its narrative strength if that one’s going to work.

His experience is fitting, yet him joining the seasoned veteran and Chief Creative Officer as co-director is a big responsibility and Cooley all too aware: “To be co-director on ‘Toy Story 4′ with John, who brought the ‘Toy Story’ characters to the screen 20 years ago, is a dream come true.”

Cooley has also worked on ‘Ratatouille’, ‘Up’, and ‘Cars 2′, but ‘Toy Story 4′ will likely be his biggest, most significant contribution to date.

“When I first saw ‘Toy Story’ I was amazed by the groundbreaking computer-generated animation. But it was the strong storytelling that kept me coming back. ‘Toy Story 4′ will continue that tradition and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it!”

With the plot details still largely unknown, so it’s been revealed by Pixar President Jim Morris that the fourth animated film in the series won’t be a continuation from ‘Toy Story 3′, and will be more of a romantic comedy. So for now fans are eagerly awaiting news on what new adventure Woody, Buzz and the gang will be getting themselves into come summer 2017.

'Toy Story 4′ is out in the UK  on 14 July, 2017
