Toy Story 4 Written By Rashida Jones, Will Be A Love Story

A few more details surrounding ‘Toy Story 4’ have emerged and the film is already beginning to take shape.

Yesterday it was announced that the fourth instalment to the beloved franchise will be released in June 2017, while it will once again be directed by John Lasseter, who oversaw the first two ‘Toy Story’ films.

But it has now emerged that ‘Parks & Recreation’ and ‘The Social Network’ actor Rashida Jones and her writing partner Will McCormack have helped to write the film.

It’s not actually known how much input they had to the screenplay though. According to the Los Angeles Times Lasseter and Andrew Stanton have spent the last two years developing a treatment. They then pulled in various other writers to enhance the script, which included Jones and McCormark.

This was because Pixar’s creative team had been insanely impressed with ‘Celeste and Jesse Forever’, a film about a divorcing couple that then try to stay friends.

Lasseter said of the duo’s talents, “They have such a great sense of character and originality. And I wanted to get a strong female voice in the writing of this.” He also went on to declare that ‘Toy Story 4’ will pick up immediately where ‘Toy Story 3’ left off before he then added that it will be a “love story” too.

He also went on to defend the studio’s choice to make another sequel, explaining, “A lot of people in the industry view us doing sequels as being for the business of it, but for us it’s pure passion. We only make sequels when we have a story that’s as good as or better than the original. We don’t just, because of the success of a film, automatically say we’re going to do as a sequel and then figure out what we’re going to do.”

At the moment it’s just great to hear that we will once again be catching up with Woody, Buzz, Rex, et al. And the fact that they’ve got Jones and McCormack involved suggests that they’re approaching it in an original and quirky fashion too.
