New Poltergeist Footage Will Give You Nightmares

Momentum seems to be really building for Gil Kenan’s ‘Poltergeist’ reboot, with a new spooky trailer that offers perhaps even more scares that the first one did.

90 seconds of fresh footage doesn’t sound like much, but it’s safe to say that if we’d had to watch any more we wouldn’t have been able to sleep for the rest of the week.

Finally we get to hear (most of) the classic line, “They’re here…” uttered by little Madison, who is the girl replacing little Carol Anne from the 1982 original.

Thankfully we get to see a bit more of what goes on in the Bowen household once their youngest is ‘taken’ by the evil entity. We get a glimpse of Carrigan Burke (played by Jared Harris) who’s the expert brought in to rid the house of the poltergeist and bring back their captured daughter from the other realm.

So far the reboot is shaping up well, with plenty of jump scares and chills for horror fanatics to be optimistic over. The story appears to tread the same path as the 1982 Tobe Hooper horror, but there seem to be some nice new additions and obviously the visuals are more pleasing on the eye — But then you’d expect that with 33 years of advancements in special effects.

Sam Raimi is producing this new version, with Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt appearing as the Bowens, along with their three children.

Contentiously, the film looks set to be a family-friendly rating, with the US poster declaring it a PG-13, meaning it could be a 12a over here. But going on what’s been released during the build up to its cinema release, it doesn’t feel like the BBFC will sanction such a lenient rating, with the trailers appearing to be more fitting to a 15 certificate, but we could be wrong. By the tone of the footage on offer thus far, it looks like there’s going to be a lot of terrified children exiting cinemas across the country come May.
