Pride American DVD Cover Photoshops Out All Gay References

The US DVD release of Brit hit ‘Pride’ appears to have removed any references to the film’s gay subject matter, it’s emerged.

CBS Films, which is releasing the movie across the pond, has said that it is now looking into why the artwork was altered.

The movie tells the real-life story of a group of gay and lesbian activists who rallied to support striking miners in the 1980s.

But comparisons to the UK DVD and the US DVD releases show that references to homosexuality had been removed.

See the US DVD case below.

The synopsis on the back cover appeared to have been changed from ‘a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists’ to simply ‘a group of London-based activists’.

Additionally, a banner also on the back cover of the UK DVD case (below), which reads ‘Lesbians & Gays Support The Miners’ seems to have been removed entirely.

In a statement to Pink News, which unearthed the discrepancy, CBS said that it was planning to ‘look into’ the alterations.

It added that its web page for the film - http://cbsfilms.com/pride/ - features both the banner and the original synopsis ‘the same as it has for months’.

The company later re-tweeted a review of the movie, adding: “Pride, a film about gay and lesbian support for striking Welsh miners in the ’80s, resonates today.”

The movie won a clutch of awards at the recent British Independent Film Awards, including Best Independent Film, and Best Supporting Actor and Actress gongs for Andrew Scott and Imelda Staunton.

The DVD was released in the US on December 23. It’s due out in the UK in March.
