Vacation Trailer: Rusty Griswold Nerds Out and Smacks Down

Rusty Griswold is all grown up and, based on this exclusive new trailer for Vacation, he’s even more of a dimwitted dork than he was three decades ago.

The Vacation reboot continues the misadventures of the next generation of the Griswolds that began back in 1983. Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo reprise their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold and there are plenty of callbacks to the original National Lampoon-branded movie beginning with two different characters who echo the classic flirting scene featuring Christie Brinkley in her red Ferrari. Like his dad, Rusty spots a beautiful lady on the road; and like his dad, Rusty’s oldest son, James, sets his sights on a gorgeous girl from the back seat of the family car — until his little brother, Kevin, breaks the mood. And yes, the fam is on their way to — yet again — Walley World.

This new green-band peek at the family-unfriendly comedy offers plenty of new footage that didn’t appear in the film’s first red-band trailer, including Rusty (Ed Helms) painfully crooning to Seal’s smooth-but-creaky ‘90s hit “Kiss From a Rose.”

And his wife, Debbie (Christina Applegate), isn’t exactly psyched to have a front-row seat to the concert.

Before making the pilgrimage to Walley World, the family visits Aunt Audrey (Leslie Mann), who’s shacking up with a super-tanned, super-blond (and super-something else) Adonis named Stone Crandall (Chris Hemsworth). He’s also super inappropriate at the dinner table.

It wouldn’t be a Griswold trip without a ridiculous car. Rusty is piloting the “Honda of Albania,” a Tartan Prancer (if you stop at the 47-second mark, you’ll notice the vehicle requires gas and electricity). And the breakout star of the trailer is Steele Stebbins, who plays the mean 'n’ mouthy younger brother, Kevin Griswold. Then there’s Rusty’s big action scene, when he punches a dad (Ron Livingston) from a rival family.

Meanwhile, one of the painfully funny bits from the first trailer — the family’s unwitting dip in a pool of raw sewage — makes an encore.

We’re sure there will be lots more blunders for the hapless clan when

Vacation hits cinemas 21 August.
